All Companies, scientific and research organisations as well as public institutions are welcome to host a challenge at the GigaLab!

Why should you become a GigaLab Challenge Host?

  • If you are facing a digital challenge at your organisation and you think that maybe an application based on gigabit or 5G infrastructure is the key to find the right solution
  • If you like to work with a team of startups, SMEs, students and others to create ideas and solutions for your challenge
  • If you are in need of additional guidance & advices from mentors and experts on the way to solve your digital challenges

How do you become a GigaLab Challenge Host?

  • Describe your problem or challenge using the template we provide and submit it until October 2nd to gigabitacademy@ffg.at
  • Form a cooperation with the Gigabit Academy and invest at least 2 days of your time and resources to host the challenge at the GigaLab
  • Register on this website and get in contact with us for further information

What challenges are we looking for?

  • Digital challenges can vary from AI & metaverse to mobility, industry, media, healthcare, entertainment etc.
  • Ideas & solutions for your challenge should require gigabit or 5G connectivity
  • Let our Gigabit Wall inspire you or find some examples below:

  • Smart Cities and IoT Sensor Networks
    • Gigabit infrastructure can support the deployment of extensive sensor networks in smart cities. These sensors can help monitoring various aspects of urban life, such as traffic flow, air quality, energy consumption, and waste management. Residents and city officials can access real-time data through mobile apps or web interfaces, allowing for more efficient city management.
  • Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) Experiences
    • Gigabit infrastructure can provide the bandwidth needed for immersive VR and AR applications. For example, museums and educational institutions can create interactive, virtual exhibits that allow users to explore historical or scientific concepts in 3D. Gamers can enjoy high-quality, multiplayer VR experiences without lag or buffering.
  • Advanced Manufacturing and Industry 4.0
    • In manufacturing and industrial settings, gigabit infrastructure enables the implementation of Industry 4.0 principles. High-speed data transfer and low latency support real-time monitoring and control of automated machinery and robots. This results in more efficient production processes, reduced downtime, and improved product quality.

How do we select the challenges?

A jury consisting of the Gigabit Academy team and AustrianStartup members will select a maximum of 10 challenges according to the following criteria:

  • The challenge must be topic related
  • The challenge is feasible at a two day event
  • The callenge has a potential impact on society
  • Only companies, scientific institutions and public institutions can become a GigaLab Challenge Host
